Wireless Networking

Enterprise-wide WLAN

An enterprise-wide wireless LAN deployment makes mobile access to the network available throughout an entire enterprise facility or campus. Where users move they have predictable high-performance access to information. Building a mobile-edge such as this can dramatically transform the economics of enterprise networking, because the natural long-term evolution of an enterprise-wide WLAN is to become a substitute for the traditional fixed network. A fully mobile edge network eliminates the cost of moves, adds, and changes while dramatically reducing the need for new cabling. Aruba networks powers the mobile edge with innovative cost-saving deployment options, high-performance and highly-available equipment, and extensive tools for ongoing operation and management.

Aruba 's solution for IP voice offers network managers the most secure, highest-performing Voice-over-WLAN support, enabling voice-capable, mobile devices on the same WLAN mobile edge infrastructure used for data. VoIP is a very demanding traffic type: it requires very low delay and packet discard rates, and very short interruptions when the call is handed-over from AP to AP. Because the mobile edge architecture maintains centralized context for both QoS and security, it can easily follow voice users as they move through the network.

Comprehensive Security

Aruba 's comprehensive security restricts the user or voice device to only those privileges defined by the network administrator. Aruba 's policy enforcement firewall prevents voice devices from sending non-voice traffic into the network, and can be configured to automatically disconnect devices that violate these policies.

Superior voice quality

Obsessive attention to every lik in the call path allows identification and prioritization of voice packets. Aruba 's system honors QoS tags such as 802.1p and DSCP, and uses multiple queues to separate voice and data traffic on the downlink over-the-air, giving voice strict priority over other data.

Fast Roaming

Fast roaming is a unique requirement for wireless voice. Data users will not notice interupptions of several seconds or more as their device moves from AP to AP. But voice users on a call start to complain when outages exceed about 50 msec. Aruba's centralized architecture maintains all client state information in a central mobility controller simply updates internal tables for the user's location. Because no change in the user state is required, the fastest possible roaming times are enabled.
